We Knife Co. Muster Must Appeal to Fans of Beefy Knives

Last month we wrote about the We Knife Co. Hull, a military-themed folder that was part of a family of limited edition models. Now that the full suite has arrived we’re looking at the Muster, a large, tank-like (both literally and figuratively) folder.

Like the Hull – and like this whole special series – the Muster is a big knife. Its blade length is 3.83 inches, and its profile a wicked-looking clip point with, perhaps, a little more width than the average example of the shape. The .16″ stock gives the edge some beef without imparing its slicing/piercing capabilities, and We Knife Co.’s ol’ standby, M390, offers high-level powder metallurgy characteristics across the board. The Muster can be opened with a flipper or an oversized thumb stud with an army-style star milled into it on the show side.

As befitting the series theme, the Muster is available with a camo color scheme

One thing that has always distinguished We Knife’s mainline releases, from its earliest pieces to today, is the attention to detail they lavish on their handles. Elaborate machining and eye-catching millwork are almost a given, but they certainly went the extra mile with the Muster. There’s a stepped, triple-layer chamfer running around the perimeter, another army star, geartooth-esque cutouts and decorative fullers…all these elements come together to drive home the military hardware aesthetic that We Knife Co.’s prolific in-house design team was going for.

Describing a knife as “tanky” may be a little passe at this point, but the Muster really does bring to mind the solid, stocky uberfolders of 10 years ago – “overbuilt” would be another apt term here. On the off-side scale we can see the frame lock (with the now industry-standard steel interface component) and the sculpted titanium pocket clip, custom-designed for this piece and sporting complimentary military flourishes. And, despite the overall bombproof appearance, the Muster manages to keep the weight to a relatively sane level: We lists it as 5.54 oz.

The Muster, along with the rest of the military limited series, is available now. All three variants of the Muster in particular are limited to 200 pieces.
