Work Sharp Builds on Award-Winning Modular Knife

Work Sharp brought its latest modular everyday carry piece to Blade Show last weekend. It’s called the Madrone, and like its predecessor it can swap between manual and automatic deployment mechanisms.

Most obviously think of Work Sharp first and foremost as a manufacturer of sharpening systems – y’know, the thing that makes knives sharp rather than the knives themselves. But there were signs even as far back as 2022 that they had their eye on the folding knife market, when they released a limited edition, high performance version of the Benchmade Bugout. Then, last year, they made a splash – and won awards – at Blade Show with the RMX, their first in-house folder design, which nabbed Most Innovative Imported Design in Atlanta.

Now the company is capitalizing on that momentum with the Madrone, a new knife that borrows not only the mechanical flourishes of its predecessor but its clean, rugged look as well. The Madrone’s M390 clip point blade measures 3.25 inches long, so it has the wingspan and edge retention for long bouts of cutting chores whether it’s being deployed manually or automatically – because yes, this knife ships with the components necessary to convert its pivot between the two.

That was a signature feature on the RMX, as was its integral frame – something that the Madrone has as well. Its stylish but simple handle is machined from a solid billet of aluminum, providing additional rigidity as well as – let’s be real here – Cool Points. The reversible pocket clip is deep carry, and the Madrone weighs a very reasonable 3.3 oz.

It is available now.
