RoseCraft Heads Down to the Farm with the Overall Creek

It was only a matter of time before RoseCraft got around to releasing their take on the specific single blade jack knife pattern popularized by the Case Sodbuster and similar pieces. This is the Overall Creek, and it is also the first RoseCraft traditional without a bolster.

This jack knife, under any of its many names, is almost the primeval incarnation of the folding knife as we know it: a simple handle and a simple blade, ready to work. Virtually every company with an interest in historical knife patterns has to take a crack the pattern at some point (in addition to the Case Sod Buster, another, more recent popular version is the Great Eastern Cutlery 71), and it looks like 2024 will be the year for RoseCraft.

The black sandalwood version has the same diamond lattice pattern on the covers

The Overall Creek has a 2.9-inch bullnose blade. It provides all the traditional functionality of a drop point, but its width and the presence of a flat grind here give it some extra beef and durability. RoseCraft did not do anything surprising in the steel department, but D2 semi-stainless is a work knife classic. It’s proven stuff, a formula that can take a beating and hold an edge; and while it may not be rust proof, it isn’t as susceptible to corrosion as the average carbon steel either.

We don’t think we’ve ever seen this traditional pattern with a bolster, and while that certainly wouldn’t look bad, we’re glad to see RoseCraft’s Andy Armstrong has decided to forgo that particular flourish (which has been universal across their traditionals up to this point) to deliver a really classic-looking Sod Buster/Bullnose-style handle here. Available in two different kinds of sandalwood covers, both sides have a diamond lattice pattern cut into them for some added traction and general pizzazz.

The Overall Creek will be available soon.
