KA-BAR’s latest piece is another Allen Elishewitz collaboration, the aptly-named Elishewitz Pocket Tool or EPT. This is an EDCable fixed blade with sensible cutting geometry and some unique features for a fixie,

One thing we like to do here at KnifeNews HQ (in between shareholder meetings, lavish team retreats, and puttering around the world in a plane from the KN fleet) is highlight any trends in the industry – just for fun, really. And when it comes to knife world trends, the EDC fixed blade is an interesting one, because, while it hasn’t exploded in the way that, say, flipper knives did 10 years ago, it has been a very stable sector of the market, with new models rolling out, if not all the time, than at least often enough to keep fans happy.

You don’t often see a pocket clip on a fixed blade

EDC fixed blades vary widely in size – not unlike folders, we suppose, but because they do not, y’know, fold, their overall size is much more of a consideration. Thus, some EDC fixies are carried on the belt like a larger knife would be – but with the EPT, Elishewitz had his sights set on pocket carry and designed accordingly. The EPT’s drop point blade is 2.5 inches long – ample room for many of life’s daily chores, and bolstered by the inherent strength of a fixed blade. The steel, by the way, is drop forged 425HC, as is the case with all of the recent drop forged knives in KA-BAR’s lineup.

The EPT’s handle profile? Simple and pure as can be. But there is an interesting feature here that plays into the EDCability of this little fixed blade. Elishewitz and KA-BAR have outfitted the EPT with a reversible, loop over wire pocket clip; with the sheath over the blade the entire thing can be carried in much the same manner as a folder. The finger ring on the butt end can help with grip while the EPT is in use, but also provides a nice method of quick retrieval when it’s stowed away. The total weight on the EPT is listed at 3.2 oz.

It is available now.
