GiantMouse Iona Sailor Puts the “Sea” in EDC

We’ve read that there were often rats aboard ships, but evidently there were mice too…giant mice. GiantMouse is back with the Iona Sailor, a folder inspired by some of the design priorities of maritime cutting tools.

All GiantMouse knives have a story behind them – usually a story about a bar (they are a team after our own heart). But the Iona is a bit different, taking its design cues from sailor’s knives – cutting tools whose owners were sometimes forced to break the tip off of, in order to make mutinous actions more difficult. Beyond this interesting “safety” feature, a sailor used his knife for lots of cutting, through lots of trying material.

The deep carry wire clip is a GM staple

This is the concept behind the Iona, and GiantMouse have executed it to their usual high level of performance and polish. The blade is a 2.9-inch modified sheepsfoot, with the usual low tip of that profile but a lot more belly. S90V blade steel gives that belly the bite it needs, not to mention the longevity; when it comes to working with and through tough materials, S90V is still near the top of the pile.

The handle is your usual, comfortable arcing shape. The scales are made from lightweight FRN, and feature a topological texture for high grip (not to mention cool looks). There’s a liner lock in place for security, and a reversible deep carry wire clip. This Italian-made knife weighs 2.6 oz. – an ideal weight for both sea dogs and landlubbers alike.

The Iona Sailor is available now.
