Patrick Mahomes Sr., who is on probation after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated, filed a motion to try to see his son, Patrick Mahomes, play this season.

Mahomes Sr. filed the motion Friday in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas, according to FOX10. He requested permission to leave the state for seven of his son’s games in Kansas City, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cincinnati, Ohio, according to FOX10.

In the motion, Mahomes Sr. acknowledges that to leave the state, he must submit to urinalysis testing both before and after he travels and notify a supervising officer each time he departs the state.

Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in 2024 and was sentenced to five years of probation. He was arrested in February 2026 on charges of violating the terms of his probation after drinking alcohol, according to Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman.

The violation extended his probation by another two years.

The motion Mahomes Sr. filed noted that he completed 16 weeks of outpatient treatment and 160 hours of community service. The motion also states that Mahomes Sr. has complied with all current probation conditions and is monitored by an ankle monitor, both of which can be verified by a Smith County community supervision officer.

The Chiefs open the season against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football in Week 1 and while it’s not confirmed Mahomes will start, he appears on track to be on the field.

The two-time MVP underwent surgery in December to repair torn ligaments in his knee, yet he has still managed to work with the first team throughout training camp. He did not play in any preseason games.

“He’s going to keep practicing just like he’s been doing,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters Wednesday. “These are more like practice here, a lot of one-versus-one play these next couple of days. That’s a good thing.”
