“Bob’s Burgers” voice actor, Eugene Mirman, has been hospitalized after he was rescued from a fiery crash on Tuesday, March 31 in New Hampshire.

According to a press release from the New Hampshire Police Department, troopers responded to calls claiming Mirman crashed into the Bedford Toll Plaza while driving on the F.E. Everett Turnpike at around 11:55 a.m., and that his car had caught fire and that he was stuck inside.

The voice actor was ultimately pulled out of the car through a window by a veteran State Trooper, whose name is being withheld, assigned to Governor Kelly Ayontte’s security detail, who just so happened to drive by the scene. Governor Ayontte and other witnesses on the scene also helped pull Mirman to safety.

“Certainly, their actions were heroic in what they did,” Colonel Mark B. Hall said in the press release. “Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it.”

“Eugene was in a very scary car accident. He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him,” a rep for the actor told People. “He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.”

Following his rescue, Mirman “was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries.”

Governor Ayontte spoke out about the incident in a post on X, writing, “I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts today. Joe and I are praying for the full recovery of the driver who was injured today.”

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed yet.

Mirman began his career in Hollywood as a stand-up comedian, known for his intellectual and often intentionally awkward style of comedy. He’s released many comedy specials and albums, including “The Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman,” “En Garde, Society,” “God is a Twelve-Year-Old Boy with Asperger’s” and others.

He also has an extensive career as a voice actor, and is primarily known as the voice of Gene Belcher in “Bob’s Burgers,” a role he has played since 2011.

“It’s been wonderful watching it grow,” he told Vulture in July 2017. “It’s been amazing to be a part of something that families watch together. There’s something nice about a show that can be odd, but also really connect with people.”

The popularity of the television show led to the creation of “The Bob’s Burgers Movie” in 2022, which follows the family as they try to keep their restaurant alive.

When reflecting on the longevity of the show, Mirman explained he sees the show as a “sort of a distraction from stuff that is immediately happening.”

“It’s not like the show is full of travel ban jokes, but it is a warm and accepting world where there are all sorts of people. At a different time maybe it could have been described as making a statement of sorts,” he said.

“But in a time when everyone’s health care is being robbed maybe it doesn’t seem as politically relevant,” he continued. “Really I just think that everyone should make the thing they want to make and whoever the audience is for it will hopefully find it.”
