Wharnie-Sporting Lunaris Sure is a Looker

Get a load of this incoming piece from Civivi. Called the Lunaris, it sees the in-house crew riffing on the Wharncliffe blade shape and going super bold with the color scheme.

One of the most interesting traits of the wharnie is that it can look devoutly traditional or, with just a few tweaks, emphatically modern. It’s a versatile shape when it comes to the aesthetics, and it’s just as flexible in terms of usage. Here, on the Lunaris, we’re looking at a mid-size everyday carry, with snappy flipper deployment and a longish 3.43-inch ramrod-straight cutting edge.

The other Lunaris prototype also has a lot of ‘tude

So it’s easy to see the Lunaris snipping and slicing, and chewing through tougher material when called upon to do so. The Nitro-V blade steel in use here, quickly becoming a favorite over there at Civivi HQ, brings the necessary performance characteristics to bear; it’s safe to say Nitro-V is the current representative for what user should expect from a sub-$100 knife stainless steel.

The handle is where Civivi cut loose with the colors, with the Lunaris prototypes sporting two eye-catching configs: black and red (with matching black-coated blade), or a yellow/purple combo that has the eye-searing attitude of a 90s comicbook superhero costume. Underneath the hood there is a liner lock, and a loop over pocket clip adorns the exterior – not a reversible one, at least here on these early prototypes.
