We Knife Co. Aims for the Sky(nix)

Sometimes, around this time of year, we’ll describe a new knife as a possible “stocking stuffer;” but this inbound model from WE Knife Co., called the Skynix, is a bit too big to qualify for that Decemberish designation.

The Skynix is a We Knife Co. original, conjured up the company’s in-house team – and it really feels like a perfectly-balanced fusion of the early We style – big, bold blades with eye-catching embellishments – and the current, more restrained and (design-wise) more expansive style. You can see the nod to the early We years in the blade, a 3.7-inch clip point blade. That’s a sizeable cutting edge, but with a large forward choil and a jimped thumb ramp behind the peaked spine, control over this largeish lad should be enough to employ it even in smaller cutting chores.

The imposing Damasteel variant

And for the steel? Well, there will be no surprises on that front for anyone familiar with the We Knife brand – and no disappointments either, because, of course, the company is rolling out the Skynix with M390 super steel. Highly stain resistant, delivering impressive edge retention, and not an absolutely bear when it’s time to take it to the stones, M390 has become a staple of the high-end production knife scene for a reason.

Ah, what a classic handle design – if you’re reading this article, there’s every chance you’ll own at least one knife with its own variation on this kind of handle: the gentle arch shape and large forward finger groove, a total classic. The Skynix handle is made primarily from titanium (with frame lock included), but it sports a pair of 2/3rds inlays made from a number of different carbon fiber flavors, depending on which model you choose. Speaking of choice, there is a Damasteel variation available as well.

The Skynix is slated to ship on December 22, beating Santa to homes by a mere three days.
