Vosteed Corgi Returns with New Wheeler Mechanism in Place

Vosteed Cutlery has released a surprise just ahead of Christmas and the end of 2024. The Corgi V sees the design team giving one of their existing models a major mechanical glow-up.

The Corgi came into the quickly-expanding Vosteed catalog last summer – and summer was the perfect season to see a new, lightweight EDC that could be easily carried in shorts, but that was stout enough for year-round duty. It was also one of the knives to showcase Vosteed’s penchant for unconventional mechanisms, as it came equipped with the Trek Lock, the company’s proprietary take on the increasingly popular button lock.

The Corgi V is named, not because it is made with Nitro V steel as we first assumed (no, its blade is still 14C28N, as it was on the first Corgi), but because under the hood it houses the Vanchor Lock, another proprietary Vosteed project. The Vanchor Lock, which debuted in February on the Ankylo, is one of few entries into the pivot-based locking mechanism genre. Pressing on the pivot releases the blade, allowing for easy one-handed closure.

But that isn’t the only piece of custom Vosteed tech here. The Corgi V’s 2.98-inch blade can be opened with a front flipper just like the original, but it also features what Vosteed calls a “wheeler” deployment. The entire rounded portion of the blade tang has been jimped, so that the Corgi V can be flicked open with a roll of the thumb. It’s a design concept inspired by the flint wheel on Zippo-style lighters, and one that Vosteed hopes will make the Corgi V the choice for fidget fiends.
