Terrain 365 has returned with the second generation of their DTK knife, a superthin dog tag-sized EDC folder. The new DTK-AT Topo has been tweaked to be even thinner than before.

Dog tag knives have a fair amount of history at this point, having been a cult favorite pattern amongst the hardcore EDC heads out there. There is just something innately pleasing about the knowledge that a fairly full-featured cutting implement can be had in such a compact amount of space – the whole concept appeals to the gadget-enjoying sector of the knife enthusiast community.

The DTK next to an actual DT

The Topo’s adorably compact snubnose drop point measures 1.19 inches long. Anybody who has carried an enthusiast-grade keychain knife will know that that’s a surprisingly versatile amount of cutting edge, particularly when it’s rendered, as it is here, in enthusiast-tier materials. The Topo’s blade is made from Terravantium, the cobalt alloy that, while not the only blade material in Terrain 365’s lineup, is definitely the centerpiece of their offerings thanks to its completely rustproof nature.

The Topo’s handle retains the dog tag-shaped profile of the original, with a bit of extra pizzazz – and the source of its name – in the form of some topological millwork on both the show- and offside scales. Looking at that off-side scale also reveals that, yes, the Topo is a locking knife – and not only that, it sports one of the burlier lock configs out there, a frame lock. Terrain 365 note that the Topo is actually thinner overall than previous runs of this knife: the blade “thickness” here is .1″, which is .018″ thinner than the original DTK model.

The Topo is available now.
