SNECX Tan Superlocks in Next Civivi Collaboration

The wait for a new production knife with SNECX Tan’s Superlock mechanism is nearly over. Civivi will be releasing the Buster FG next month a full-size utility folder modeled on a famous SNECX mid-tech piece.

In fact, the original Buster came to fruition through another collaboration, between SNECX Tan and Jake Hoback. It was a significant step in Tan’s career because, after the IFS-20 dropped enthusiast jaws the world over, people were clamoring for a way to get a SNECX design into their hands. By partnering with Hoback, Tan was able to produce the Buster at a scale that, while still very limited, was still big enough to stock with dealers at a price notably lower than the eye-watering $10,000+ one of two IFS-20s ever sold went for.

There are other colorations available than the gold/black (but it’s our favorite)

This Civivi Buster FG sticks to the imposing dimensions of its 2017 forbear. The flat ground hyper-modern wharnie blade runs to 4.2 inches, wringing positively every last drop of slicing performance out of this well-loved utility blade shape. Fashioned from Civivi line-standard Nitro-V, it will be resistant to the elements, and earns above average marks in its class for edge retention too.

The very first Buster predated the Superlock. This ambidextrous mechanism is located on the spine of the knife, and was drawn up to be reliable through hard cutting jobs – such as might be expected of a knife in the Buster FG’s size class. Civivi has already gotten its feet wet with production Superlocks – including one on the We Knife label Mini Buster – so it is not a surprise, but a welcome reveal, to see it on this model too. The Buster FG’s Superlock is housed in a handle made from a stainless steel frame and a coarse-textured, heavily skeletonized G-10 scale on top. It weighs 6.46 oz.

The Buster FG is releasing next month – coincidentally or not, around the time of Blade Show in Atlanta.
