During SHOT Show 2025, most new for 2025 defensive or tactical shotgun offerings that debuted seem to rely on trusted and proven actions. However gun companies are differentiating themselves by offering shotguns with more sophisticated and feature-rich accessories. It’s not just furniture, but also ways to incorporate optics capabilities.

Mossberg 590 RM Mag-Fed

Mossberg launched a pump-action Mossberg 590 variant with a reconfigured receiver that swaps the iconic Mossberg tang safety with a 90-degree, frame-mounted safety similar to the AR-15-pattern safety. The main reason for the safety swap is because the Mossberg 590 RM Mag-Fed utilizes straight-stocked AR-15 pattern furniture that completely changes how the shotgun feels when its held against the shoulder. This new Mossberg 590 variant includes details like a heatshield, a flat-top Picatinny optics base, Magpul MBUS flip-up front and rear sights. But, instead of feeding from the tubular magazine, the 590 RM’s receiver is opened up to accept box magazines.

Stoeger M3000 Tactical

Stoeger’s M3000 series of semi-automatic shotguns are known for the implementation of an inertia-driven action similar to what’s found in Benelli models. This year, Stoger introduced the M3000 Tactical variant, so in addition to its proven inertia-driven action, the new M3000 Tactical is also shotgun outfitted with oversize controls, a Picatinny optics based, a breacher choke, pedestal front sight and a modern tactical polymer furniture set. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this new Stoeger shotgun is that its receiver has a milled pocket and takes optics footprint places in a manner not unlike most optics-ready handgun slides.

Palmetto State Armory 570 Modular Pump

Last year, one of the most anticipated shotgun-related announcements for the US firearms market was that of Palmetto State Armory’s PSA 570 pump-action 12 gauge shotgun. In 2025, this well-thought out defensive shotgun is getting ready to finally start hitting the shelves later in the year during the summer. In a nutshell, the PSA 570 combines the best elements found in the classic Remington 870 pump-action with the best elements offered by the Mossberg 500 action along with a few other touches to produce an extremely practical shotgun. Palmetto State Armory has been collaborating with some of the biggest names in shotguns to execute on this project.

Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol Chisel

Following two years after the initial launch of the 12-gauge, semi-automatic, gas-operated Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol, Beretta is now following up in 2025 by offering an A300 Ultima Patrol model that includes a Chisel Machining folding “wire” stock. The Chisel Machining wire stock replaces  the traditional black synthetic stock found in all other A300 Ultima Patrols tactical shotguns, with a utilitarian wire stock that still sports a butt-pad in addition to Picatinny optics base that sits on a cantilever structure over the A300 Ultima Patrol’s receiver. As such, this provides a perch for a red-dot or prismatic optic that hovers over the actual receiver.
