Sencut Skelfin Slipping Out This Summer

The recent debut of the Civivi Guile, a knife designed by actor Shawn Ashmore, has been getting a lot of attention, and for good reason. But there’s a new release under parent company We’s Sencut label that deserves some attention too: the Skelfin, a new EDC knife with a quirky look and rock-solid fundamentals.

Although the term, of course, means different things to different people, when we say “EDC” we are generally referring to a small- to mid-sized knife with a blade shape, steel, and handle conducive to a wide swathe of different mundane cutting chores: opening packages, slicing up an apple, snipping twine or stray clothing threads, that sort of thing. It’s a category that virtually every knife company addresses in some capacity and one to which Sencut has been fleshing out with their offerings over the years.

The Skelfin is a compact package

In the blade shape world there are the stalwarts, the shapes that recur over and over again: drop points, clip points, and tantos. These are tried and true choices for a reason, but it’s always nice to see a blade with elements from the larger profile catalog. To wit, look at the Skelfin’s blade. Sure, it is mainly a clip itself, but with enough of an upturn at the tip to qualify (by our lights at least) as a trailing point. It gives this reliable 3.3-inch cutter some pizazz. It also has a high fidget factor, thanks to its combination of thumb stud and button lock retention mechanism.

The handle is – dare we say it – really cute, a narrow-necked, arching shape outfitted with G-10 scales in three different colors: white, black, or pink, which is the model that we have chosen to give the spotlight to throughout this article. The pocket clip, deep carry and loop over, can be swapped to either side. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear given the Skelfin’s general slender footprint, but this is a very lightweight knife at 2.44 oz.

The Skelfin will be available by the end of the month.
