This might have slipped under your radar, but all of a sudden there are numerous semi-automatic versions of the iconic Heckler and Koch MP5 out there these days. There’s still the original, of course, except the semi-automatic version is called the SP5, along with other manufacturers like  Military Armaments with the MAC-5 and Zenith Firearms with the ZF-5, to name just two.

Easier access to this popular gun means that there is more demand for MP5 accessories to customize your gun to your needs, so we’ve rounded up a few essentials to make your MP5 pistol into what you want it to be.

SB Tactical HKPDW Brace: MSRP $329.99

Always make sure you are in compliance with the local laws when adding a brace to your pistol, but if you choose to do so, this brace from SB Tactical would be an excellent decision. Filling out the appropriate permission forms and then adding a stock to turn your pistol into a Short-Barreled Rifle (SBR) is also an option if you’re still not sure where the legal back-and-forth is going to land.

Sight mountZenith Firearms Claw Mount (MSRP $64.95) And Cocking Handle ($28.71)

Red dot and other electronic optics were not a thing when the MP5 was designed, so Zenith Firearms (and others) created an easy-to-attach rail that fits onto the bumpy bits of the MP5 receiver so you can add your choice of optic to this gun.

And while we all know the MP5 slaps, adding a large cocking handle to your MP5 makes the “HK Slap” a little easier to perform, and a little easier to lock back as well.

MediatorGideon Optics Mediator: MSRP $279

Here’s a little trick that ol’ John McClane never figured out. The built-in iron sights on an MP5-style gun are fine, but a red dot extends things out even more, allowing for more-precise aiming in all sorts of light. The Gideon Optics Mediator is an enclosed-emitter sight which uses the ACRO footprint and comes with both a low- and high-mount adapter for Picatinny rails. Inside the optic, you have your choice of a red dot, reticle or circle-dot combination reticle. The Mediator also has all the other features you’d expect in a dot sight these days, such as shake-awake technology and a battery-saving sleep mode.

HandguardMagpul PMAG D-50 MP Magazine ($124.95), SL Handguard ($49.95) and ESK Selector Switch ($49.95)

The MP5 is widely used by military and law enforcement agencies around the world, so it stands to reason that Magpul would make accessories such as a handguard with M-Lok slots on it and an ambidextrous safety switch. However, when you think “Magpul,” you think “magazines,” and so there is also a 50-round drum magazine available, because why reload when you don’t have to?

UTG Light MountUTG Pro M-Lok Light Mount ($74.97)

Wait, you say, UTG? Don’t they make, like, airsoft stuff? What is this thing doing here? Well, if you haven’t noticed, a lot of companies have really ramped up their game as of late, and UTG has done something similar with the UTG Pro line. Created in conjunction with former members of some of our most-elite military units and built from the highest-quality materials, the UTG Pro line is designed to run with the best of them. This aluminum M-Lok light mount attaches to the front sight of your MP5 and gives you M-Lok slots at the 11, 12 and 1 o’clock positions, allowing you to add a light, laser or other accessory right where it is needed.

Surefire Turbo Mini Scout Light Pro: MSRP: $409-$439

Speaking of lights, the Turbo series from Surefire are optimized for higher candela and a longer throw than other lights in the Surefire line, making them a good choice for a gun that’s meant to shoot further than your normal pistol. Powered by either one rechargeable battery or two CR123A cells, the Turbo Mini Scout Pro attaches to your gun either with M-Lok, as we’ve done, or with a Picatinny attachment.
