Earlier this month we touched bases with Rivery Manufacturing, formerly Rivery CNC, a shop that changed its name to suit its growing ambitions and built on the continuing success of their Zero utility knife. Now Rivery is seeking funding on Kickstarter for the Zero-G, a sequel to that flagship, fidget friendly piece.

The core concept with the Zero-G remains the same as its predecessor: the classic replaceable blade utility knife in a premium, knife enthusiast-approved chassis. The blade is manually deployed by sliding the show-side scale forward; pulled back on the scale retracts the blade with the help of a spring mechanism inside. The fidget factor was a key part of the Zero, and is a key part of the Zero-G as well; in fact, Rivery says they’ve beefed up the feel of the closing action with the addition of a second magnet.

Yes, magnet – because another signature element of the Zero has been replicated on the Zero G, and that is the totally screwless design.  Evidently inspired by mechanical puzzles, the Zero-G is construction with magnets and interlocking components so that it can be disassembled by hand, no tools necessary.

There’s a completely new future on the chassis too, and that is Rivery’s patent-pending “flush pivot” clip. This clip utilizes springs instead of screws, which allows it to be adjustable to different thicknesses of pocket fabric. The clip can also be pressed down like a button and recessed entirely into the handle, should a user wish to carry their Zero-G loose in the pocket or pack. There’s also a lanyard channel at the back end; the Zero-G weighs 3 oz.

The funding window for the Zero-G is open now – and it has already passed its goal.
