Jakub Wieczorkiewicz has one more design up his sleeve for 2024, and it’s out now. This is the Real Steel Knives Spectrum, a mid-sized EDC knife with some fun and funky details that help it stand out from the pack.

Wieczorkiewicz, who works under the shop name Poltergeist Works, has been unabashed in his love for hard lines and dramatic angles, but his blades are often clean, and not without their curvy element. The Spectrum’s blade is a little puukko-inspired with its high drop point profile. It measures 3.39-inches in length, opened with a thumb disk, and made from Nitro-V steel. This mid-range, nitrogen-enhanced steel’s performance numbers mark it as a classic EDC steel choice for current generation, low- to mid-priced production knives (the Spectrum’s launch price is set at $80).

The Spectrum taking it easy against some wood

Lots of manufacturers have beefed up their button lock game this year, and it looks like Real Steel is getting in on the action too. They don’t have a ton of button locks in their lineup, and none that look like the one on the Spectrum: the raised, rectilinear shape almost resembles the Play button on an old video recorder, or something else that, when pressed, would activate an electronic rather than disengage a blade – but the latter is what it is here to do, and it works just like any other button lock despite its unique style.

There’s also an interesting construction element to note on the Spectrum’s handle. While it is is not a full integral piece, each of its G-10 scales incorporates half of the back spacer, so that when the knife is screwed together the space is not a third, separate component from the scales. According to Real Steel, this choice enhances the 4.56-inch handle’s overall rigidity. In total, the Spectrum weighs in at 3.5 oz.
