The Navy relieved the commanding officer of Naval Information Warfare Training Group Norfolk on Thursday, the service announced.

Cmdr. Sarah M. Quemada was relieved of her duties by Rear Adm. Brian A. Harding, commander of Naval Information Warfighting Development Center, “due to a loss of confidence in her ability to command,” the service said in a brief release.

The release did not provide additional details on Quemada’s dismissal. The Navy uses the “loss of confidence” statement as a blanket term when relieving commanding officers.

“The Navy maintains the highest standards for commanding officers and holds them accountable when those standards are not met,” the Navy said.

Quemada, who assumed command of NITWG Norfolk in June 2023, has been temporarily reassigned to Naval Information Forces.

Quemada enlisted in the Navy in 2005. She previously served as the tactical information warfare officer aboard the destroyer McFaul and deputy information warfare commander for Amphibious Squadron Four, according to her biography on the Naval Information Forces website. Quemada’s shore assignments have included officer in charge for Cryptologic Warfare Group Six Detachment, Digby, among others.

Capt. Steve McIntire has temporarily assumed leadership of NITWG Norfolk.

NITWG Norfolk is a subordinate command of the Naval Information Warfighting Development Center command based in Norfolk, Virginia.
