2nd generation knife maker Ken Onion, Jr. (can you guess who his dad is?) has his first Civivi collaboration on the cusp of release. The Crabby is an everyday carry piece with restrained dimensions and a fun but useful aesthetic.

Ken Onion Sr. is a prolific maker and production designer, and someone who has left an indelible mark on both halves of the market. Knifemaking clearly formed a large part of Jr.’s upbringing, as the younger maker came out swinging in 2023 with the CRKT Bamboozled, a buttoned-up everyday user in which we could see a burgeoning personal style in the making.

Props to Civivi and Onion Jr. for making a knife in purple – it’s a rare color!

Achieving a Civivi collaboration is almost a right of passage for any up-and-coming designer, and for his first model with the company, Onion Jr. worked up a charming little EDC piece. The Crabby’s blade is 2.7 inches long, which is on the smaller side for a 2025 daily carry piece, but plenty long for most users’ needs. The blade shape is a modified sheepsfoot that tweaks the format to include a bit more belly and a higher tip than the textbook takes.

Ergonomics are also squared away – or, we should say, “circled away,” because the Crabby’s handle is all smooth curves and tasteful sweep. And while Onion Jr.’s style stands on its own, there is a fun little nod to his famous father’s work in the three milled out lanyard holes – this bit of visual flair is something you can see on a lot of Ken Onion Sr.’s knives. The liner lock Crabby comes with a reversible pocket clip and weighs 2.99 oz.

It is – you guessed it – coming soon.
