Kansept Pairs up with New Maker for Leviathan Family

Kansept had a whole mess of new knives roll out through the fall and early winter, including the Leviathan. This is the first Kansept collaboration with custom maker Daniel Sparhawk, and it combines heavy duty construction with an unconventional blade shape.

The Leviathan lives up to its name with some imposing dimensions. This is not a knife that’s afraid to make a statement. Gaze upon that blade, which measures a whopping 3.9 inches long. Moreover, the blade shape is a hawkbill – not a shape you see every day, and certainly an uncommon choice in a knife of this size in particular. The Leviathan could work as an everyday carry knife if big knives are your thing, but the size and blade shape scream “heavy duty work knife” to us; this one looks ready to power through the gnarlier jobs life throws our way.

The CPM-20CV steel chosen for the blade means the Leviathan’s edge will hold up through those jobs as well. If hard work is on the schedule, then edge retention is key, and that’s something that CPM-20CV does quite well. It’s also highly stain resistant, and some versions of the Leviathan come with a coated blade too, to bring the bump the anti-corrosion properties up another notch.

The handle is suitably tanklike, a perfect companion to the blade. It’s a sensible mild bracket shape made from two big slabs of titanium, embellished with some fullers and cutouts that give it a bit of three dimensionality. On the off-side there is a beefy frame lock bar sporting a stainless steel insert to keep wear on the titanium itself to a minimum, and a sculpted titanium pocket clip attached on the bottom, which is non-reversible.
