GiantMouse recently released a big surprise for slipjoint fans. The Jutland, a folding knife in the EDC/hunter categories, has been transformed into a compact modern slipjoint.

The Jutland has been a GiantMouse cast member for nearly three years now. In the company’s diverse lineup of everyday carry pieces and classy users, the Jutland had a distinctive outdoor bent with its rugged mid-size blade and roomy handle. The Jutland actually originated in the GM8, a limited edition, now long-gone release, but even that collector-oriented predecessor had obvious camping/hiking/hunting knife chops.

Although these Jutlands are slippies, they do come with a pocket clip

This new Jutland slipjoint, however, is more than just a mechanism switchup. The whole footprint has been reduced by a significant amount. Whereas the locking Jutland earned a mid-sized designation with its 3.3-inch edge, the slippie arrives with a blade length of 2.65 inches. In general, slipjoints tend to run smaller than their locking counterparts, but this version of the Jutland retains the all-purpose utility that was a major part of the original design – just in a more carryable package that is legal in more places.

The handle comes in one of two luxury materials: titanium or brass. Both incarnations have a diagonal texturing across their scales that echoes, but does not directly imitate, the wavy millwork on the GM8. Obviously the titanium model is the choice for anybody who wants the lightest take on the model, as it tips the scales at 2.6 oz. The brass model is heavier, but perhaps not as heavy as that material choice may make you think – GiantMouse says it weighs 3.8 oz.

Both versions of the Jutland are available now. GiantMouse has some other exciting plans this year, including an automatic – stay tuned for more coverage.
