Springfield Armory is launching the new 1911 DS Prodigy Compact 9mm pistol. Offered in 3.5-inch and 4.25-inch variants, the new 15-round Prodigy Compact takes the 1911 platform and enhances it with double-stack capacity and a carry-driven feature set.

Configured around a flush-fitting, double-stack magazine, these new pistols are slim enough for a comfortable grip and have a tritium front sight post for visibility in low-light conditions. At the rear there is a serrated black U-notch rear sight unit, and both pistols use AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Each AOS plate is designed to provide proper optic height for an intuitive sight picture and features an integral rear sight. The Prodigy ships with a Hex Dragonfly-compatible plate as well as a standard cover plate, while additional optic-specific plates are available for purchase from Springfield Armory.

To ensure the Prodigy Compacts are as light as possible—the 3.5-inch model weighs 25.5 ounces and the 4.25-inch weighs 29 ounces—the guns use a polymer grip module that is mounted to a billet machined 7075-T6 aluminum frame. The slide of each pistol slides is made of forged carbon steel, and the match-grade bull barrels are crafted from forged stainless steel.

The Prodigy Compact pistols have recontoured hammers, beavertail grip safeties and ambidextrous frame safeties. There is a black, corrosion-resistant Cerakote finish on the metal parts that complements the black polymer grip module and the black DLC finish on the barrel.

“The release of these compact variants of the popular 1911 DS Prodigy offers EDC enthusiasts an exciting new option,” says Steve Kramer, vice president of marketing for Springfield Armory. “Combining double-stack capacity with ease of carry and the excellent shooting characteristics of the proven 1911 pistol, the new Prodigy Compact warrants serious consideration for your self-defense needs.”

MSRP for either variant is $1,549, and more information on the new1911 DS Prodigy Compact or other products offered by Springfield Armory is available at springfield-armory.com.
