The Hidaka series knives from SOG combine traditional aesthetic Japanese blade-design cues with Western knife concepts to deliver one-of-a-kind tactical, outdoor, survival and specialty knives.

The SOG Hidaka XR

The SOG Hidaka XR blade incorporates a modified tanto profile that follows Matsuda’s signature blade shape lines. Hidaka XR blades are manufactured from CPM 3V steel and measure 4 inches in length. CPM 3V steel is a high-performance alloy known for its exceptional toughness and resistance to chipping. CPM 3V steel is also commonly used in knives set up for demanding tasks like chopping and prying. Its durability and resistance to wear make it a favorite for survival, tactical and outdoor knives. As a tough outdoor knife, the Hidaka also relies on SOG’s ultra tough XR lock which makes this folding knife handle and feel like a fixed blade design. SOG’s XR lock can withstand 1,500 pounds of force. The entire unit is encased by a linen micarta handle, which is both strong and light weight.

The SOG Hidaka FX

The Hidaka FX is a slightly larger knife that also employs a 4.8-inch CPM 3V steel blade with Matsuda’s classic lines, with a different blade profile from the Hidaka XR. Unlike the XR, the Hidaka FX has a true fixed blade.

Knife designer Kiku Matsuda has been working on blades and cutlery for over 40 years. He has collaborated with major knife brands and companies throughout his career to bring designs to market. Matsuda also travels to major blade shows and gatherings around the world. Finally, Matsuda’s work earned him the “Best Collaboration Award” for work he did with SOG at the 2007 Atlanta Blade Show.

SOG’s new Hidaka XR and FX outdoor knives have an MSRP of $309.95 and $249.95 respectively. Visit sogknives.com to learn more about this pair of new releases or other products from SOG.
