Real Avid has just launched a newly designed, specialized bit holder and driver meant for use on firearms, optic mounts, rail attachments and any other shooting-related tasks.
The design of the Real Avid X3 driver is based on a conventional ratchet, like the types used by mechanics and technicians to work on machinery. With 72 positions around the mechanism, this tool can provide maximum leverage and exact bit positioning. The tool’s head knurled the bit rotation wheel on the back of the driver for one finger use. Similarly, the main shaft of the X3 driver has knurling to provide a secure grip. In order to provide leverage or different angles, the X3 driver can be configured as long shaft, as a perpendicular T-shaped “jack”, or with half of the shaft serving as an extension for hard-to-reach places.
The X3 Driver system has five distinct tooling kits developed for serious DIYers and professional gunsmiths.
The first is the X3 Driver system in the Smart-Torq Adjustable Limiter and X3 Driver Kit. This kit includes the X3 Driver, a 12-piece bit set, hex-to-square adapter, and a 1/2-inch socket and adds another new-for-2025 Real Avid product, the Smart-Torq Adjustable Limiter. This is a precision torque wrench adjustable from 15 to 65 in/lbs in 1 in/lb increments, making it an essential tool for installing scope rings, mounts, and actions screws. The Smart-Torq Fixed Limiter and X3 Driver Kit comes with the X3 Driver system, 12 driver bits (hex, Torx, slot and Phillips), 1/4-inch hex-to-square adapter and a 1/2-inch socket. Also included are six of Real Avid’s all-new Smart-Torq Fixed Limiters. Pre-set to 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, and 65 in/lbs, the 1/4-inch drive Smart-Torq Fixed Limiters work with the assorted bits to ensure precise torque on critical screw applications like action screws and optic mounting hardware. MSRP for this kit is $149.99.
Three X3 Driver Gunsmithing Bit Sets are also offered in multiple bit configurations to meet the tooling requirements of a wide range of gun work. Available kits include a 13-piece bit set, 57-piece bit set, and a 52-piece set that features both standard-size driver bits and a range of sockets. MSRP for these kits vary from $29.99 to $49.99.
