First 2025 Buck of the Month is Here

Even in the midst of gearing up for SHOT Show, Buck has not neglected to drop the first Buck of the Month for 2025 – and it’s a new flavor of the 110 Folding Hunter, decked out in some fancy handle scales, unusual finishing touches, and a rock solid super steel.

The 110 may be the knife we have cited and described more than any other here at KnifeNews. While there are other names that are just as prominent in the knife nerd’s mind, the 110 is one of just a handful of knives that practically everybody, no matter their connection to cutlery, can recognize on sight. It’s just a legendary 20th century knife, and as such it has had no shortage of special editions throughout the years – many of which we’ve covered here.

What’s up with this one? Well, the immediately visible difference is in the scales – or really, in the handle as a whole. The scales are made from Richlite, a sustainable composite material made from paper that has seen a major resurgence in the knife industry – as a recent example, the 2025 Benchmade lineup saw multiple models getting outfitted with Richlite variants. The Richlite on this 110 has a scalloped tan and black color that looks a bit like the marbled pages of an old book. And there’s another touch that aficionados may pick up on: the pins are left “bareheaded,” meaning they they are not polished to blend in with the surface of the bolster.

Finally, the steel has been given a familiar, albeit welcome, upgrade to S35VN steel. MagnaCut may have overtaken it by this point, but before it hit the scene S35VN was almost surely the steel we mentioned most, so it’s a sensible counterpart to this equally omnipresent knife. And while the man on the street may not know S35VN by name, it’s not so exotic in its composition that he couldn’t maintain it properly – and the Buck S35VN comes with the very welcome bonus of a Paul Bos heat treat.

The January Buck of the Month is limited to 750 pieces, and available now.
