Throughout the era of Donald Trump, Jimmy Kimmel has used his late-night comedy show on ABC to fight the bad orange man and speak truth to power, at least in his own imagination, but the thing about speaking truth to power is that the true thing actually has to be true.
This week, Kimmel suddenly saw his show indefinitely suspended for speaking lies to power. It was one lie in particular, one invented by the liberal media: The lie that Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin was actually right-wing.
FCC CHAIR LEVELS THREAT AGAINST ABC, DISNEY AFTER KIMMEL SUGGESTED CHARLIE KIRK ASSASSIN WAS ‘MAGA’
Almost immediately after Kirk’s murder, the liberal media was in overdrive with absurd theories that this obvious left-wing political violence in which the perpetrator literally wrote, “Hey Fascist, Catch,” on a bullet he used to kill the nation’s leading conservative activist was actually driven by right-wing gamer memes, or something.
And it wasn’t just the lying media. How about this hot take from a Democrat member of Congress, California Rep. Dave Min, that is still up on his X page:
“Now that the Charlie Kirk assassin has been identified as MAGA, I’m sure Donald Trump, Elon Musk and all the insane GOP politicians who called for retribution against the ‘RADICAL LEFT’ will now shift their focus to stopping the toxic violence of the RADICAL RIGHT.’”
To be clear, not a word of this post is even remotely connected to reality. Like Kimmel, Kim no doubt just believed those in the liberal media who fed him a story of right-wing, White-male violence, that they just couldn’t resist.
Neither, it seems, could many Americans, according to new polling from YouGov that shows 24% believe the alleged shooter is a Republican, compared to only 21% who say he is a Democrat. Only a shocking 8% of Democrats believe, as every shred of evidence shows, that he is left-wing.

Reports on Thursday said that Kimmel is very angry at his show being suspended. And he should be mad, but not at the Federal Communications Commission for calling out his lie, or at his bosses at ABC for punishing it. The proper object of his ire is the liberal media he trusted that made him look like a fool.
Poor Jimmy got left out in the rain. None of the trusted journalists he relied on in framing his fabrication got fired. Dave Min isn’t gone, though, as Mark Twain understood, members of Congress must always rationally be held to the lowest possible standard.
Kimmel found out in a direct way that it matters where you get your news and who you trust. Loathe though I am to say it, Kimmel is a victim here too, a victim of liberal media lies.
In the week since Kirk was killed, the left-wing media has not been using the facts to find the truth, but choosing the facts to construct an anti-conservative narrative.
In the confusing immediate aftermath of a tragedy, this narrative building can work, because little is known and much is being gathered. For a few days, “maybe he’s a nihilist,” or as Montel Williams tried to argue, a star-crossed lover, can fly. But eventually, the real facts come in.

Every real fact in this case, from the engravings on the shell casings, to the victim, to the statements from his family and friends, all show that this murder was a blatant act of left-wing political violence. That was clear early on to anybody who isn’t living in a George Orwell novel.
Unfortunately for Kimmel, he was living in a George Orwell novel. Whatever the Big Brother of the left-wing media told him had to be true. There was no need to trust the evidence of his eyes. He would be told what really happened by the “experts.”
If it is any consolation for Kimmel, I’m confident that at the next cocktail party in Manhattan or DC he will be toasted by the liberal media and political elite as a martyr, as they continue picking up their paychecks and peddling their perfidy.
Every good conspiracy theory needs a fall guy, a patsy to take the hit when the whole thing starts to unravel. With a show that was already hemorrhaging audience and money, Kimmel fit the bill.
To paraphrase another Twain pearl of wisdom, the lie that Kirk’s killer was MAGA was halfway around the world before the truth got its pants on. But now, conservatives are buckled up and the only person pantless is Jimmy Kimmel.
