Civivi Torvyn Brings Serrations into Play

The Civivi designers are continuing to flex their muscle in the fixed blade category with an incoming knife called the Torvyn. The Torvyn is a utility-oriented cutter with an (unusual for Civivi) element of serration to the blade.

Shape-wise, the blade itself is a drop point – a narrow take on the form, with an edge length of 3.75 inches, so while the Torvyn will enjoy all the strength benefits of its full tang, non-folding construction, jobs requiring some finesse are well within its wheelhouse as well. AEB-L steel is in use, at least on these early knife show prototypes of the Torvyn,  so solid performance in edge retention, toughness, and stain resistance can be expected.

Now as a company, Civivi seems to emphasize plain edges over serrated ones. A serrated blade is not completely unheard of in the Civivi catalog, but it is rare, so whenever one appears – and the Torvyn has a short run of serrations at the base of its edge – it’s worthy of note. These serrations are noteworthy in another way, too: there are three teeth, and each one is bigger than the one that came before it.

The back end of the Torvyn’s handle curves in a bracket-like manner, although the curvature on the forward guard element is less pronounced. The rounded scales, on the two prototypes revealed so far, come in either green burlap Micarta, or a blue/white combo G-10 that gives an arctic-style aesthetic to the Torvyn’s inherently outdoors knife-ish design. The knife weighs 4.34 oz. and comes with a Kydex sheath.
