We’re known to indulge in a pun or two here at KnifeNews, but with this new Civivi release the punning really takes no effort or skill at all. Take a look at the Gander, an inbound fixed blade from Matt Gentry, a Michigan-based knife maker.

Actually, Gentry’s first-ever production collaboration is not even a year old. That would be the M.U.K., a scalpel-ified take on the classic Nessmuk pattern, released under the Boker Plus label in September ’24. Infusing the Nessmuk with scalpel-style dimensions resulted in a quirky, compact take on the format that delivered fixed blade capability in an easily carryable package.

The wood-handled Gander still comes with 14C28N steel

The Gander, meanwhile, keeps things a bit more conservative in terms of the design, with timeless lines that even a non-knife person could appreciate at a glance. The 3.63-inch blade has a wide profile and a sturdy-looking clip tip, and is made from stainless, straightforward 14C28N steel; all in all it reads like a savvy, reliable do-all fixie, whether the “all” you’re doing be day-to-day cutting jobs or outdoor chores on the trail.

Nothing crazy going on on the ergonomic front either – and, for a user knife like the Gander, that’s exactly how it should be. There’s a deep finger groove beneath the blade, and a very subtle curve along the spine, but that’s it. Full-size G-10 scales (or wood, or Micarta, depending on which flavor you choose) lay on top of the full tang, and the Gander fits snugly into a Kydex sheath with a T-Clip included. The Gander weighs 4.87 oz.

It will be available soon.
