Do you like the Elementum? What about slipjoints? One of Civivi’s first orders of business in 2025 is to release the Elementum Slipjoint, which combines the company’s eternally popular flagship with the beloved non-locking format.

The original Elementum isn’t that old – it’s turning five this year – but it is already the patriarch of an extensive family tree, with many variant models. Bigger versions, smaller versions, a fixed blade, even a model set up like a standard issue utility knife – in fact, one of the most surprising things about the Elementum Slipjoint is that it has been preceded to market by some of these more outre variations; given the popularity of modern slipjoints, it seems like this would’ve been one that Civivi tackled before now, but maybe they just wanted to get it absolutely right.

No stand-off construction here, of course.

So the blade here is right in line with the standard Elementum, measuring 2.96 inches and done up in the rounded, slim-ish drop point blade shape we all know and love. Due in part to its popularity, the Elementum has probably been rolled out in more steels than any other Civivi model; this slippies are all made from 14C28N – other than the requisite Damascus model, which is the dressiest version available and comes with carbon fiber handle scales. Of course, as a slipjoint this model has neither thumb stud nor flipper, and instead comes with a traditional show side nail mark.

The handle too hews close to the august original. Two interesting elements here are worth pointing out, however. Among the Elementum Slipjoint’s handle scale options is a new Blue Ocean resin handle; resin is an interesting, durable alternative to composites like G-10 and always nice to see. Second, due to the nature of its mechanism the Elementum Slipjoint is, probably, the most lefty-friendly version of the knife yet released. All Elementums have reversible pocket clips but the locking element usually means there’s a still a residual right-favoring component. Not so here.

The Elementum Slipjoint is hitting at the end of this month.
