Summer is in full swing and Buck is tearing out of the gates with the immediate release of the July Buck of the Month. This month sees the company celebrating the upcoming holiday weekend with a patriotic version of their flagship folder.
It’s hard to say anything new about the 110. It might get mentioned more than any other single model on this website. One thing that has become increasingly apparent about the 110 in recent years, is that the pattern seemingly works in any combination of materials – whether entry level or high end, modern or classic, the Folding Hunter flexes to fit them all. And, as the most enduring and famous model of one of America’s most enduring and famous knife companies, it must’ve been an obvious choice for this particular Buck of the Month.
The unmistakable California clip is flaunting MagnaCut steel here. Buck has fully embraced this steel since its release, in particular with its special editions. Naturally, MagnaCut works a treat on a 110, which straddles the outdoors/indoors knife divide; it’s a sensible choice for either – or both! – roles, and it makes this design, field-proven for more than fifty years, feel much more modern all on its own.
Another modern material makes an appearance for the scales, and this one is courtesy of Camo Carbon. This particular coloration of carbon fiber is called “America,” and it’s easy to see why, with streaks of red, white, and blue intermingling on the black backdrop. Polished nickel silver bolsters replace the usual brass ones, completing the modern classic vibe on this particular 110. A distressed black leather sheath is included as well.
