The Boker Bronco is getting a little brother at the end of this month. The cleverly-named Mini Bronco is a small, but do-it-all outdoors fixed blade made from high-performance materials in Boker’s Solingen factory.
Boker has multiple labels, each with their own respective style and place of origin. Knives marked with “Solingen” label are made in that German city, in the original Boker plant. An interesting element of the Solingen brand pieces is that they tend towards the traditional, with excursions into high-end modern folder models; but there are not that many Solingen pieces in the “rugged outdoors” category that the Mini Bronco falls into.
When it comes to those rugged outdoors, the Mini Bronco in particular seeks to address the needs of bushcrafters. To that end it packs a 3.5-inch drop point blade sporting the much-beloved Scandi grind for extra bite into dense materials and edge stability. All of these geometrical advantages are further enhanced thanks to CPM 3V steel – a hulking beast in the powder metallurgy world, and one of the go-to choices in that tier of steels for outdoors or hard use pieces.
A grip-filling, beer-bellied handle encases the Mini Bronco’s stick tang, which is extended out the back end to create a low-profile pommel element. The textured outer layer of this handle is made from TPE, a tacky, grippy, rubbery elastomer that sees use routinely in the knife world. Kydex, another recurring cast member, is the thermoplastic of choice for the Mini Bronco’s sheath, which includes a clip for extra retention.Boker says the Mini Bronco is getting let out of the corral on August 30th.
