American Officials Backtrack Iran Threat

Officials in the United States have backtracked on a threat to Iran, saying that the U.S. is not actually ready to strike, after several mainstream media outlets claimed that an attack was imminent. The information on an imminent attack came from “anonymous sources.”

Anonymous Sources Say That A U.S. Attack on Iran Is Imminent

The U.S. has built up a military presence in the Middle East, as its rhetoric regarding Iran has intensified. Washington has dispatched what US President Donald Trump described as a “massive and beautiful armada” to the region over the past few weeks. The armada was led by the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and meant to pressure Tehran into accepting a new nuclear deal.

A few days ago, reports surfaced that there would not be a deal reached with Iran, making another regime change war, much like that in Venezuela, possible.

No Deal With Iran! An Apocalyptic “Regime Change War” Appears To Be Imminent

Even though the U.S. has been building up its arsenal in the Middle East, airstrikes on Iran “aren’t imminent” because Washington needs to make sure that Israel, its Arab allies, and U.S. forces in the region are properly protected, the Wall Street Journal said in an article on Sunday, citing its sources.

After the US and Israel bombed the Iranian nuclear facilities last June, Tehran responded with attacks on Israel as well as by striking the al-Udeid American air base in Qatar. The damage to the US facility was limited due to the Iranians giving advanced warning to Washington. –RT

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned on Sunday that any U.S. military action would have far-reaching consequences across the Middle East, saying that “they should know that if they start a war this time, it will be a regional war.”

Later in the day, Trump dismissed Khamenei’s remarks, but left the door open to diplomacy. “Of course, he is going to say that,” the president noted. “Hopefully, we’ll make a deal. If we don’t make a deal, then we’ll find out whether or not he was right.”

The rulers insist progress is being made, and even Russia weighed in on the issue. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged a diplomatic dialogue between btoh sides, stressing that “any forceful actions can only create chaos in the region and lead to very dangerous consequences.”
